Despite the hopes of Africans have bestowed upon it, the Addis Ababa headquartered African Union continue founding itself in quagmires of uncertainties on its own policies. With apparent failure in catalyzing the 1999 Sirte declaration thus to bring African regional blocks into powerful and solid foundations for strong Africa, the Union has, only, been effective in reversing urgent matters against the insubstantial affairs.
With dumb-founded response to the language-centered segregation policies in Cameroon, Commission for Social Affairs of the Union has been crippled in addressing the Anglophone speakers complain over the Francophone dominancy in the Bamenda region. Instead, the union labors to erect memorial statues to notorious warlords of Ethiopia, imperial Haileselassie and Premier Meles Zenawi, in the compound of the new headquarters complex, the AU Conference Center and Office Complex (AUCC).
Manifestation of the Union’s hypnotized status as it depended on China’s commitment and friendship to have the new complex which was inaugurated on 28 January 2012 of the 18th AU summit, the Union’s incongruent silence in the crisis of Libya and the temporarily stealth-seem situation in Ethiopia mesmerizes experts. Taking to members fragmented stances on Western Sahara and Morocco, gross failure of the union rush to nominate ‘observatory committee’ on non-existing affairs of Djibouti and Eritrea armors how the union is in morasses of confusion to rank priorities against the inconsequential affairs.
Chosen to reserve an alienated position in the politics and animosity shrouded affairs of the Nile riparian states and, eccentrically, warnings to Zimbabwe in early of the military’s take over in ousting Robert Mugabe, adds the triviality of the Union to defend African independent choices. A union that allowed the National Transitional Council of Libya to fill Libya’s seat within days following to the death of Muammar Ghadafi on 20 October of 2011, has, however, been adhering the policies of muteness on the disremembered affairs of the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia and Ethiopia, the most volatile in Horn Africa.
With its wordy expressions for its discontent as the on-going humanitarian calamities in Libya and legacies of modern slavery, discerning the impotency of the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights to monitor after immigrants affair in Israel and its silence on some African countries preparation to serve Israel’s inhumane acts, testifies the dwindled status of the union.
Moreover, with all these and other matters, it is yet challenging to African youth to remain united and celebrate Africanism profoundly.
