Mekele June 21/2018 The decision taken by the Ethiopian government to fully implement the Algiers’ Agreement is an icebreaker in the relationship between Ethiopia and Eritrea, Deputy Administrator of Tigray Region, Debretsion GebreMichael said.
Debretsion has also added that the government’s decision on economic reform do not contravene with the cardinal development polices of a developmental state.
The government of Ethiopia has recently announced that it is ready to fully implement the Algiers’ peace accord and the decisions of the border commission as well as forge economic reform.
Speaking to local journalists today, Debretsion said that the implementation of the Algiers’ agreement and the decisions of the border commission will help to normalize the relationship with Eritrea.
The conflict had seriously affected the development of the border areas as well as the countries hindering the possibility of a joint development program which could have been of mutual benefit for the peoples of the two countries, he added.
The people residing on border areas have been deprived of their rights to development and were made to focus monitoring the security of their respective borders for the last 18 years.
The deputy administrator has also said that the government’s decision to implement/forge economic reform do not contravene with the cardinal development polices of a developmental state.
It was recalled that the Executive Council of EPRDF has decided to open public companies to local and foreign investors for the first time.
Telecom, electricity and logistics, as well as the national airline are among the companies that the government has decided to open for investors.
